Shaping the leaders of tomorrow
World Adventure Scouts is an independent scouting association that combines the rich traditions of classic scouting with the dynamic needs of today’s world. Our programs are designed to cultivate essential life skills, foster personal growth, and instill a strong sense of responsibility and community in our members. By engaging in a variety of adventurous activities, from wilderness survival and outdoor education to community service and leadership training, our scouts learn to navigate the complexities of modern life with confidence and resilience. We emphasize character development, teamwork, and the importance of making ethical decisions, preparing our members to be proactive and compassionate citizens.
At World Adventure Scouts, we believe that scouting is more than just an outdoor activity; it’s a transformative journey that equips individuals with the tools they need to thrive and lead in any environment. Our inclusive and adaptive approach ensures that every scout can participate fully, regardless of background or ability. We strive to create a supportive and inspiring environment where everyone can discover their potential and contribute to a better world. Through our dedication to excellence and a spirit of adventure, we are committed to making a lasting impact on our members and the communities they serve. In short, we make awesome humans.
Why Adventure Scouts?
A Brief History of Scouting
Scouting began in the early 20th century when Robert Baden-Powell, a British Army officer, published “Scouting for Boys” in 1908. This book laid the foundation for the worldwide scouting movement, emphasizing outdoor skills, leadership, and community service. As the movement grew, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) was established in 1920 to promote global unity among scouts. However, it’s important to note that not all scout associations are affiliated with WOSM. Over time, various groups have emerged, each with their own unique approach to scouting.
In the UK, significant changes came with the Chief Scout’s Advance Party Report in 1966, which aimed to modernize scouting. This led to the formation of the Scout Action Group, advocating for a return to traditional scouting values and sparking the formation of the Baden-Powell Scout Association. In much the same way, with recent changes in the Scout Association (UK), our new association, World Adventure Scouts, is a throwback not only to the pre-2023/2024 transformation version of UK scouting but also to its traditional roots. We blend these timeless principles with modern sensibilities, creating a balanced and relevant scouting experience for today’s youth.
Independent and Culturally Competent Scouting
World Adventure Scouts is an independent association, not affiliated with WOSM. We are designed as an alternative to overseas scout units of National Scout Organizations (NSOs), offering increased cultural competence and customized local frameworks. Our programs are tailored to understand and respect local regulations, certifications, and accrediting organizations, ensuring that our groups can provide a comprehensive scouting experience without fear of reprisal or complications with insurance.
Our independence allows us to adapt our program to the specific needs of each community, offering a richer and more relevant scouting experience. We prioritize cultural understanding and local relevance, allowing our scouts to engage deeply with their surroundings and develop a profound respect for diverse cultures. Through this approach, World Adventure Scouts empowers its members to become well-rounded, culturally competent, and socially responsible individuals, ready to make a positive impact in a globalized world.
